Continued at Cornell College and graduated with a BA in History in 1939. Was the Captain of his college team as well as an All-Conference center. In 1940 was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy. Became the Director of Industrial Relations for Simpson Lumber Co. and later in the same position for Burgess-Norton in Geneva. Active member in local politics where he served as the Lions Club President, 2 terms on the city council, 8 years on the school board, and on the Board of Directors for a Savings and Loan.
